John Poelker
President & CEO
Georgian Bank
John Poelker is the president and CEO of Georgian Bank. His unique background makes him exceptionally qualified for this role, with over 40 years of experience in the banking industry both as a banking executive and accounting professional. Mr. Poelker launched his accounting career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company (KPMG) in St. Louis in 1965. He moved directly into the financial services industry in 1972 when he accepted the CFO position with Mercantile Bancorporation, Inc. located in St. Louis. Mr. Poelker’s subsequent experiences include serving as the president and CFO at Citizens & Southern in Atlanta as well as the CFO at BankAmerica Corporation, American General Finance and Old National BancCorp. He also served as Chairman and CEO with Fleet Financial. Mr. Poelker’s extensive experience with leading financial organizations is complemented by his leadership roles in various industry organizations such as a member of the Board for the Bank Administration Institute and the American Financial Services Association.
Mr. Poelker is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a BBA in Accounting.
